Over the past few years, JOHUD has implemented projects with more than 30 international partners, thus maintaining its ability to remain at the cutting edge of development in a wide range of sectors. For donors, a partnership with JOHUD has the added advantage that it provides long-term institutional presence and outreach to the community, thus enhancing project sustainability.
JOHUD uses its broad portfolio of projects to create synergies between programmes, and invests its own resources to promote integrated development that combines elements of social, economic, political and cultural empowerment.
JOHUD strives to ensure that local partners are empowered to take the lead in running their projects. JOHUD encourages people to work collectively through representative bodies such as committees, co-ops and local community based organisations. Increasingly, JOHUD helps to link these associations with the private sector to strengthen the awareness of interdependence.
Working through partnerships
JOHUD works with a range of national, regional and international partners from government, civil society and the private sector to pursue sustainable development objectives. At community level, JOHUD works closely with Municipalities and the Governorate Development Unit. JOHUD aims to ensure that its work is aligned with national strategies and contributes to poverty alleviation. The international community, in particular, has played an invaluable role in guiding and supporting JOHUD's programmes and projects.

Sustainable infrastructure
Some JOHUD
projects involve creating better infrastructure, such as renovating dams
and irrigation channels, refurbishing kindergartens, building small factories,
and setting up local markets. JOHUD works with the community to set up
user groups who will take responsibility for the management of project assets
in the longer term.
Projects to improve access to resources
But in many
cases, it's not about demanding more resources, but about making access to
existing services more equitable. Typical projects aim to ensure that women
have access to affordable finance, that young people have a voice in decision
making, that disabled people have access to services, that water for
agriculture is distributed fairly, that land rights of poor farmers are
respected.
