Project: Ethical markets and rural livelihoods
Project title:                Relaunch of Souq al Ard
Project partners:       Beit al Bawadi, numerous CDCs
Project funders:         SABEQ (USAID)
Project purpose

The project aimed to  re-establish JOHUD's Farmers Market / Souq al Ard as a weekly event at Beit al Bawadi in Abdoun to provide marginalised farmers with access to markets where they can increase the income they derive from rural livelihoods, and where consumers can exercise their choice for fair trading.

Support sustainable farming practices in Jordan - especially those that use scarce resources such as water and fertile land and at the same time to help small farmers enter supply chains that will ensure that in the longer term they benefit from trade and gain a decent living from their labour on the land.
Main components

Enhance the capacity of producers to sell their goods profitably at Souq al Ard
Raise customer awareness of the unique ethical attractions of Souq al Ard
Strengthen linkages between Souq al Ard and key stakeholders involved in sustainable agriculture and ethical market development.

Over 500 people attended the re-launch
Approximately 4,000 customer visits to the season of souq al ard

Many traders report average sales around JD100
Producers receive training in product, packaging etc.
