The CDS Nawal Al Sharif Scholarship
The scholarships commemorates the
late Nawal Al Sharif, whose death in 2001 was such a loss to her family,
friends and the development community in Jordan and the region. At the time of her untimely death, Nawal was
Director of the Social Development Training Centre at ZENID. Prior to that, she
was Director of Planning at the Ministry of Social Development. In both organisations,
she played a key role in the Capacity Building Project managed by the Centre
for Development Studies (CDS, Swansea) on behalf
of the UK's
Department for International Development (DfID).
Staff and associates of CDS Swansea
who worked in Jordan
wanted to demonstrate their respect for Nawal's extraordinary commitment to
social development, and established this scholarship in her name.
