| Working with people with special needs |
|
JOHUD recognises that people with disabilities face obstacles, and that they are often unable to access the services that help them reach their potential and to lead healthy and fulfilled lives. When people with disabilities also come from poor families, or live in remote areas, they are often marginalised.
Through a variety of targeted programs, JOHUD aims to enable people with special needs to claim their rights and entitlements, to gain personal fulfillment and to lead independent, healthy and productive lives. JOHUD works with the whole family, and also with the broader community to raise awareness about disability issues and to combat the culture of shame that can otherwise lead to further marginalisation for disabled people. JOHUD promotes the integration of children with special needs into mainstream education.
Our programmes are implemented in partnership with various community service providers in order to ensure that people with special needs are provided with the care and up to date skills they require. This is achieved through physiotherapy units, counselling and rehabilitation, special education, as well as capacity building. Additionally, we also provide specialised training for caregivers on up to date skills and techniques on how to deal with people with special needs.
Over the years, JOHUD's Good Will Campaign has proven to be an essential support to those with special needs in Jordan.

JOHUD's programmes with people with special needs
Al Rajja' School for
students with hearing difficulties: utilising innovative teaching
methods, the school provides students with formal and non formal
education, in order to help them reach their full potentials.
Mo'ta Centre
for special education: focusing on education and rehabilitation
focusing on children who are mentally challenged. In addition to
equipping young people with special needs with vocational skills.
Physiotherapy units:
we have established 10 physiotherapy units in remote and rural areas
through our Community Development Centres. The sessions focus on
children with cerebral palsy; as such services are scarce and expensive.
Portage Project educational
program for early intervention - An outreach program that provides
training for mothers on how to deal with children with special needs in
their own homes.
Training Courses:
Over the years, we have developed comprehensive training packages
tailored to meet the needs of people with special needs, service
providers and caregivers. The trainings are conducted by qualified
special needs trainers.
Integration Program -
We have established a model Kindergarten that caters to the needs of
children with special needs and aims to integrate them with non
disabled students. This model KG has proved to be successful; we have
conducted numerous trainings through our comprehensive training package
that aims to transfer our experiences and knowledge to other
institutions who are in need of adopting this model.
